What Is Anovulation?

What Is Anovulation?

Anovulation is a condition in which a woman does not ovulate (or release an egg from her ovaries during her menstrual cycle). No ovulation means no period (even though you might experience bleeding).

Several factors can cause anovulation, including:

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome,
  • Thyroid dysfunction,
  • Prolactin excess,
  • Being overweight or underweight,
  • Taking certain medications,
  • Stress.

Ovulation is a crucial part of the menstrual cycle and is necessary for conception and your health and well-being. It is also the only way your body can naturally produce progesterone.
