Pregnancy - Week 32

You may experience increased swelling in your feet and ankles, this is a common issue. Ways to decrease the swelling and to feel more comfortable are:

  • Elevate Your Feet: Keep your feet elevated as much as possible, especially when sitting or lying down. This helps reduce fluid buildup by improving circulation.
  • Wear Compression Socks: Yes we know they aren’t pretty but compression socks or stockings can help manage swelling by promoting better blood flow and preventing fluid from pooling in your feet and legs.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water may sound counterintuitive, but staying well-hydrated helps flush excess salt and fluids from your body, reducing swelling.
  • Move Around: Avoid sitting or standing for long periods. Gentle movements like walking or calf raises help stimulate circulation and prevent fluid from settling in your lower extremities.
  • Limit Salt Intake: If your healthcare provider agrees you may decide to limit your sodium intake as it can contribute to water retention.
  • Cold Compresses: Applying a cool compress to swollen areas can provide immediate relief and reduce discomfort.

Creating a Birth Plan

If you haven’t created a birth plan yet, this is a great time to do so! You’ll want to take it to your next appointment with your provider to discuss it with them before your baby’s birth. Taking it to your provider will help you make sure that your birth wishes will be supported to the best of your provider’s ability and ensure everyone knows what to expect. We recommend using short phrases (but not images) in your plan so that it’s easier for nurses and anyone else coming in and out of your room to know your wishes at a glance.
