Give it Three Months | Navigating the Learning Curve: Starting Ovulation Tracking

Written by Melony Angus

When you first start tracking your whole menstrual cycle it can be both exciting and daunting. Whether you're trying to conceive, tracking for health or simply trying to understand your body better, the process requires patience, dedication, and a willingness to learn.

With tools like Tempdrop, the daily steps are easier, however, there is still a learning curve. We recommend sticking with it for at least 3 months to give yourself the time to embrace the full depth of understanding of your cycle patterns.

We asked our community for their personal experiences to highlight that with time and persistence, the rewards are significant.

 Personal Experiences from Tempdrop Users

"Love Tempdrop! I've learned so much more about my body in my TTC journey...it took a good 2-3 months to see a pattern of how a cycle should look!"- Amanda
“When I came off HBC [Hormonal Birth Control] after fifteen years of consistent use, I knew I was up for a big challenge to figure out my cycles. As someone with insulin-resistant PCOS and a hormone imbalance, I was told I wouldn’t be able to conceive “naturally” without intervention.
My sister bought me my Tempdrop as a wedding gift and at first, I was sceptical. There’s NO WAY basal body temperature could tell me anything about my cycles! As someone who went MONTHS between periods, I didn’t think there was anything out there that could help me aside from HBC [Hormonal Birth Control], and that wasn’t helpful in the TTC [Trying To Conceive] department. To be a good steward of my sister’s investment, I started learning about FAM [Fertility Awareness Methods] and took a deep dive into [the book] TCOYF. I read The Period Repair Manual and began troubleshooting my cycles.
Though I am a regimented and determined person when I’ve set my mind to something, there was no way I’d be able to follow all the complicated rules to temping every morning (especially being a police officer and having an unusual/unpredictable sleep schedule at the time). Tempdrop took ALL the guesswork out for me as far as temps went. I successfully conceived my first droplet [Tempdrop baby] and she was born in October 2022!
I had no idea what I was doing at first. I read a LOT of posts, asked my sister questions, and referred to TCOYF a lot before it made sense. I’d say it took about three months for me to start really feeling confident in what I was looking at”. -Sarah D
I’m TTC and Tempdrop has saved my mental health on this challenging journey with BBT tracking. I’ve learned loads about my cycles too and this community [Tempdrop FB group] is just the kindest! I feel like it took me a few weeks to get used to everything and understand cycling and BBT in general. I relied on the [Tempdrop] QuickStart guides and reading the posts in the group to help me feel good”. -Eliz S
“It definitely felt daunting for me at the beginning. I had never even temped orally because I have a [little one] and I never trusted I could get it accurate enough with weird wake-up times, etc. My friend recommended it when I was having weird and irregular cycles. I got a Tempdrop and read “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” and the way I thought about my cycles was changed!

It has given me SO much insight into my body. It did take me a little over 2 cycles to kind of understand what I was learning. Once I learned my cycles, it took a ton of the guesswork out of when I would ovulate/get my period. I got the device in September when I had weird cycles and was able to go to my OB and show him my data. We got my cycles under control. I started having regular cycles in Nov/Dec and on the 3rd cycle I got pregnant. Tempdrop totally helped me through that whole process!”- Madalyn N

              What's the lesson?

Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. Understanding your fertility takes time. If you're just starting with Tempdrop or considering adding it to your ovulation tracking, give yourself at least three months to settle in. Stay consistent, trust the process, and don't hesitate to reach out to the Tempdrop team for guidance along the way.

Before you know it, you'll be a pro at deciphering your menstrual cycle and be able to use those insights to reach your desired goal!
